Due to his passion for engineering and problem-solving in 2014, Vasilios Kapogianis founded VK Integrated Systems (VKIS), Inc. His love of shooting and reloading led him to realize an opportunity to modernize weapon systems. Each rifle, having an electronics package capable of monitoring user motion, location, orientation, and state of the weapon system would improve situational awareness for the user and their team. As a result, designing inertial sensors, weapon systems, and electronics packages for weapon systems became the primary objectives of VK Integrated Systems.
Pushing the envelope in gyro-free inertial sensor design, Vasilios has led his team to design Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) with distributed magnetometers and accelerometers.
Under his leadership, VK Integrated Systems has developed revolutionary firearms with integrated electronics. The XR series of automatic rifles contain embedded electronics that are located inside the receiver. The development of the SmarTak Architecture allows for a unified framework of electronics capabilities and data that allows for modularity and Systems-of-Systems level integration.
Before founding VK Integrated Systems, Inc., Vasilios studied Mechanical Engineering at California State University Los Angeles (CSULA). Vasilios worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Multidisciplinary Flight Controls and Dynamics Lab at CSULA and provided ground support for flight tests of signal intelligence systems as a Mission Operations Support Specialist for Chenega Federal Systems.
Vasilios is currently a member of Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) Industrial Advisement Board.
During his free time, Vasilios enjoys United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) competition shooting, reloading, and hunting.
